It’s been a couple of busy months for me. An overnight trip to Edinburgh for some R & R – Reclining & Reading – followed by three author get-togethers. I’m in author’s no-man’s land right now having sent the first draft of “Farewell to Vancouver Island“, the final book in the Colville saga, for edit.
I chose Edinburgh for a short break mainly because I know the city and love the East coast train journey up there. With a window seat on the correct sea-side of the train and a book, I’m very comfortable.

This was taken from Prince’s St looking up at the castle. I just managed to get the contrast of the castle walls and the blossom.
This one is taken from the south looking up walking towards Grassmarket. I was on my way to the book shops along there. Nothing brilliant , but I did pick up a pocket-sized copy of Trollope’s “John Caldigate“ which I’m reading with the Trollope Society’s BIG READ 2025.

I met up with fellow author Laurence Westwood in the Cotswolds and we had a good chat about indie publishing and authors’ lives. He’s writing his third Magistrate Zhu and Philip Ye novel following on from “Liberation Street“. the latter is set in Chengdu in China and Philip Ye is a homicide detective with Chengdu Public Security Bureau. Prosecutor Xu Ya of the People’s Procuratorate is summoned in the middle of the night to the disturbing death of a famous and politically-connected businessman in Plum Tree Pagodas, a luxury apartment complex owned by the influential family Fu – and ordered to investigate with the utmost secrecy. It will make a great summer read and you can find it at – amazon.co.uk/dp/1916456979

Earlier this month I met up with the Belmont Belles and Beaux – the Romantic Novelist’s Association (RNA) Leicester chapter with more chat about our work and lives. Delighted to have Sue Moorcroft – currently President of the RNA (on the left) and her guest Becky from Joffre Books (next to her). We spent a lot of time discussing social media promotion and came up with the conclusion that there’s no magic solution, you just have to keep going to get yourself out there.

At the weekend I was with the RAG Retford Authors Group at Bassetlaw Museum where we held a MEET THE AUTHORS event. We ran a series of Q&A book talks throughout the day – Children’s books, Short Stories, Poetry, Historical Fiction and fantasy and were able to promote our own book which is a free compendium of our work.

Our members write in many different genres. See below. If you’re in the area come along; we welcome and encourage all published authors. We’re a friendly bunch – check us out below.

And lastly, here I am with one of our members, Celebrant Luke Jones – “The Story Teller who Decided to Write”. He entertained us with wonderful stories and poems.
I’m near Perth in Scotland next week to begin serious work on the fourth Shackleton saga novel and when I return it’ll be head down and last edit for the final Colville Canadian novel. So I hope to have two more books published this year giving me a trilogy and a quartet then time for a rest I think.
